Liz read my proposal and agreed that it was a good time to undertake this project as it was one year after the losses. She said that a project like this is personal to the filmmaker, but also universal, as everyone will undergo grief at some point in their lives.
I was recommended to look at the works of filmmaker Eliot Rausch, Liz's film "Look Up" about a similar experience, Mia Daniels's series on dementia and loss, and Craig Mammano's work on decline and loss in a mining town.
We discussed the style of the images I planned to take and whether they would be documentary, studio, or location.
It was also suggested to look at poetry relating to the topic that I may use as a narrative.
We decided that I should just start shooting and get moving in getting the images.
